PROGRAMME 2008

“Something old Something New”

Exhibition Opportunity

                               9th May - June 7th

Re used, renewed, redefined, recycled, redistribute, revitalised.

Although this title lends itself  to 3D there is plenty of wall space to hang 2D work.  So if you have work that reflects on any of the above please apply. It will be an exhibition of work that reflects the way artists modify, change or manipulate their materials to provide something new .

Deadline: for applications 9th April .

Handing in dates:  3rd of May or before

Exhibition fee £40 for selected artists. Commission 40%

Fees have been put back into the equation due to retail being slower in 2007. The one off fee covers however many pieces you put in the advertising and marketing of your work during the month..

As you some now know the exhibition space is on the middle floor of the gallery which was originally an old haberdashery shop. On the ground floor, it still contains the antique shelving and small drawers. Here we have more space for craft, books, art magazines and gifts. This year there will also be a featured craft artist each month.

If you would like more information, please call me on 01243 376099 or email me at linda-kirkbride@tiscali.co.uk

Looking forward to seeing your work

Dear Artist,

2007 has been a hard year financially in retail. Three galleries in the area have recently closed and, as we are a commercial gallery, there are no grants available to me. I have worked, sometimes for 7 days a week over the past 4 years with little time off, to build up the gallery. Also during this time I have taken no money from the gallery, in fact at times we have had to invest to keep it open.

Consequently, if we are to stay open and provide one of the few places in the area to show original and sometimes thought-provoking work, I am having to introduce some new policies.

From 2008, the following will take effect :

      1. Exhibition/hanging fee :  £40 for a month’s exhibition. Commission 40%. For this you will have your work hung, promoted and exhibited in a gallery.

      2. One wall space : (top of the stairs) , to be rented out at  £100 pcm to individual artists. This has to be hung by the artist and any promotional material for this will be at the expense of the artist. However this space is covered by the gallery’s insurance and benefits from the promotional work and other gallery facilities.

3  Postage : Work that is not collected in person and thus returned by the gallery, will attract postage reimbursement from the artist.

      4. Studio for rent :   £25 pw (this is a shared space  - with me for my storage purposes!).

      5. Friends : If you would like to support the gallery in other ways, we offer a friend’s             scheme where, for an annual fee (£20 Single, £30 Dual), there are certain benefits (please see web site for full details).

Suggested programme for the next 6 months :

January 2008 POST It: art work made from post its, made on post its, posted letters, comments on the postal system at the moment, or any other idea connected to the word post.

February The Affordable Art sale : known to you and I as the Rummage sale. Interesting ways of displaying your work so that the public can have a “good rummage” (customers comments once) without damaging your work.

March  My Coast : this is for artists living and working on the coast, any coast, visual imagery, mixed media, work made from what the coast produces.

Easter will be the end and beginning of a show  to avoid the slow takings at this time of year.

April  Something old-something new

May Just a Moment in Time (photography) : images taken on a certain time of day/date to be announced

June Mask the Occasion :

July Summer Open plus Friends exhibition (perhaps 6 weeks)

Application : please either e-mail me at: linda-kirkbride@supanet.com, call me at The Art House 01243 376099, or send visuals. Remember! e-mail submission alone is not sufficient without a CV unless I know the work. Hard copy visuals showing work with details of size, materials used are preferable, as e-mail images are less than perfect. Note : include an appropriately priced SAE for return of visuals. Full details of each exhibition can be e-mailed or you can check out the web site section for the specific artist.
